Aging and Its Implications on the Respiratory Care of Long-term Clients

 

The course will provide the RN and LPN with a review on aging and its effects on the respiratory system, emphasizing prediction, prevention, management, and promotion of appropriate respiratory functioning.

Objective:

•Identify normal changes of aging of the respiratory system.
•Describe appropriate health promotion and disease prevention guidelines relating to the respiratory system.
•Discuss the healthcare worker’s role in caring for older persons with respiratory problems.
•Discuss common illnesses of the respiratory system seen in the geriatric population
•Demonstrate and practice assessment skills and interventions that support respiratory functioning (PPMP).
