Computer Courses

Aultman College Community Education computer courses are taught in a state-of-the-art computer lab. Each student works at an individual workstation. Courses are taught in a three-class series. Participants should plan to attend each class.

 

New Offering!!  Digital Photo Organization and Editing using Picasa

Do you have a digital camera but aren't sure how to get the pictures off the camera and don't know what to do with them?  This is the class for you.  We will be using a free software downloaded from Google.  In this class, we will discuss and learn how to transfer pictures from your camera onto your computer, how to organize them so you can easily find them in the future, how to make gift CD's of pictures to give to others and how to print pictures in various sizes.  We'll show you how to edit and crop pictures, sharpen them if they're a bit blurry and even change a color picture to black and white.  We will also teach you how to create photo collages and add text to pictures.  Please bring your digital camera and USB cable to class.

Beginning Excel 2010

Whether you are using Excel 2007 or 2010, this course is for you! Teaches the beginning level skills and is ideal for a newer user who wants to become well versed in Excel. Students will learn how to enter and edit data; select cells and ranges; print worksheets; create formulas and function;  format cell contents; insert and delete columns, rows, and cells; and charts.

Intermediate Excel 2010

Students will learn more complex skills such as how to use multiple worksheets and workbooks, and they will start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes, backgrounds, inserting clip art, pictures and SmartArt. They will also learn how to create outlines and subtotals, how to create and apply cell names, and how to work with lists and tables. The course is designed for users of Excel 2007 or Excel 2010.

New!  Advanced Excel 2010

Now that you've mastered the complexities of multiple worksheets, workbooks and formatting you are ready for PivotTables, financial functions, data analysis, auditing and analysis tools, advanced functions such as VLookup, Sumif&Countif, and more.  The text concludes with an integration lesson.

Courses are held in a state-of-the-art computer lab where each student will have an opportunity to practice their skills.  The course is designed for users of Excel 2007 or Excel 2010.

NEW! Outlook 2010

Learn the basic functions and features of Outlook 2010. Students will create e-mail accounts and send e-mail messages using several techniques. They will also learn how to manage e-mail messages, contacts, tasks, and meeting requests. Finally, students will customize Outlook for maximum efficiency. 

Aultman Health Foundation employees with an assigned stationary computer will be able to remote into their desktop from the Computer Lab and access their personal Outlook account during class!

Beginning PowerPoint 2010

Have you recently taken on a new role and are responsible for putting together a presentation? In this class students will receive a thorough introductory training in PowerPoint 2010. In this course, students are introduced to document themes, bulleted lists, outlines, formatting text, printing presentations, transitions, clip art and graphics, charts and slide show delivery.

Beginning  Word 2010

Looking for a thorough introduction to Word 2010? This course will meet your needs by providing training in working with text, printing, using proofreading tools, creating bulleted and numbered lists, tables and forms.  This is a great course whether you are a new user or have more experience but don’t know all the tricks to making Word work for you.

Intermediate  Word 2010

This course is for users familiar with the basics of Word 2010 and wish to use some of the advanced design tools to add more than just text to documents. Topics introduced include newsletter columns, WordArt and clip art, document themes, styles, picture editing, Mail Merge, footnotes and endnotes, headers and footers, templates, tables of contents and indexes, and more…

Learn the basic functions and features of Access 2010 with this course. Students will create tables in Datasheet view, preview and print data, design databases, create database objects, format tables, lookup fields, field properties, queries, and much more.

Computers 101:  Introduction to Home Computers/Learn the Parts of Your Computer

Great course for all brand new computer users! Find out what all those keys on the keyboard are for! Learn what your desktop and screen savers are and how to change them.  Discover folders and how to keep your documents organized. Learn some helpful tips while using the internet and basic document creation.

Courses are held in a state-of-the-art computer lab where each student will be able to practice skills being learned directly at their individual workstation.  You are welcome to bring your own laptop computer.

Introduction to the Internet

This class is designed for those with some computer knowledge who would like to become familiar with the many aspects of the internet. We will discuss the following topics: how to electronically search for what you need, how to "surf" the web, how to retrieve driving directions, how to find recipes, find long lost friends, set a home page, read the newspaper online, and check the weather.  This course includes tips on how to keep your computer and identity safe when using the internet and the importance of firewalls and virus protection software.

Learning Facebook

Do you hear everyone talking about Facebook but don't know how to use it? Do you want to get in touch with old friends and keep in touch with loved ones? This class will help you set up a Facebook account and teach you all of the ins and outs of navigating through Facebook.  The fastest-growing group of people are 55 years and over. Pinterest

Have you heard about Pinterest, one of the fastest-growing websites in history? Pinterest is an online bulletin board that allows people to share ideas, recipes, DIY projects, crafting ideas, fashions, and more with their "followers". You can follow people and pin their great ideas to your own personal boards which you can then share with your followers.  Pinterest is FUN! Take this class to learn how to set up your account and start pinning!

Creating a Custom Photobook


This is the perfect way to showcase your photos!  Learn how to create your own unique photobook using online software.  Simply bring your digital camera full of pictures and a USB cable (or pictures on a flash drive).  It is the perfect gift for a loved one or coffee table book for your own home! This class includes only the instructions to create a photobook; the actual book may be purchased online for an additional cost.
