The purpose of this clinical experience is to assist the student into the transition of the RN role in managing and caring for groups of patients under the supervision on an instructor and RN preceptor.
In an emergency situation, the student will assume the role of the observer, unless otherwise directed, but within the scope of knowledge and practice of the individual student.
Upon completion of the Preceptorship experience, the student will be able to:
· Follow clinical agency policies and procedures
· Utilize SBAR format to communicate with appropriate staff when arriving/leaving the unit
· Record client information according to unit policy
· Review documented data with faculty
· Complete holistic assessment of the client including labs and diagnostics
· Include interdisciplinary interventions that are evidence-based and appropriate for the client's identified need
· Implement evidence-based safe nursing interventions
· Initiate appropriate teaching interventions
· Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions
· Deliver culturally sensitive care
· Administer medications utilizing appropriate equipment
· Process requirements in care delivery for a multi-client assignment using clinical judgement
· Participate in the interdependence between disciplines required for the delivery of care
· Discuss delegation of care specific to the client situation
