Overall Goal = Patient Safety

RN Preceptors will be able to effectively facilitate learning and learner development by:
- Assisting students to achieve behavioral outcomes
- Supervise students in their planning for and implementation of care
- Act as a role model in the clinical setting
- Assist students to relate theory to clinical
- Use Assessment and Evaluation Strategies
- Evaluate student competency of skills
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to students
- Provide a climate conductive for learning
- Contribute to the evaluation of student performance
RN Preceptor Requirements:
- Rule 4723-5-10(B)(5)
- Supervision of the student
- No more than two students at one time
- Supervisor must:
- Be competent
- Follow the direction of the course outcomes
- Clarify questions with faculty member
- Contribute to the evaluation of student performance
- Graduate of an approved professional nursing education program
- Experience of at least 2 years in the practice of nursing as a RN; and either one of the following:
- Current specialty certification
- Demonstrated expertise in the area of clinical practice
- BSN preferred; and
- A current active licensure as a RN in the state of practice
