Computer Classes

ACCE computer courses are always open to the public and can be a great way to supplement your professional development and efficiency. Computer courses are taught in a state-of-the-art computer lab where each student has his/her own workstation. Courses are typically taught in two or three day series, and participants should attend each class.

COMMUNITY COMPUTER CLASSES

COMPUTERS 101: INTRODUCTION TO THE HOME COMPUTER                      

If you are new to computers with little or no computer knowledge, this is the class for you! You will learn the pieces and parts of the computer and basics of the Windows operating system. After you become familiar with the computer, you will learn how to do simple word processing projects such as letters, reports, newsletters, and labels. INTRODUCTION TO THE INTERNET                     

If you have some computer knowledge but want to know more about how to use the internet, this class will help you. You will learn how to search for what you need, “surf” the web, retrieve driving directions, find recipes and long lost friends, set a home page, read the newspaper online, and check the weather. This course includes tips on how to keep your computer and identity safe when using the internet and the importance of firewalls and virus protection software. USING EMAIL                   

This class is designed for the user who has basic computer skills and may or may not be using email.  We will review email basics such as reading and writing an email as well as more advanced such as attaching pictures and downloading attachments. Pinterest, one of the fastest-growing websites in history, is an online bulletin board that allows people to share ideas, recipes, DIY projects, crafting ideas, fashions, and more. This class will teach you how to set up your account, “follow” people, and start “pinning” great ideas to your own personal boards. Pinterest is FUN! LEARNING FACEBOOK            

Do you hear everyone talking about Facebook but don’t know how to use it?  Do you want to reconnect with old friends and keep in touch with loved ones?  This class will help you set up a Facebook account and teach you how to manage your news feed, post, reply, add friends, and other important functions. DIGITAL PHOTO ORGANIZATION AND EDITING WITH PICASA           

Do you have a digital camera but aren't sure how to get the pictures off the camera and do something with them? This is the class for you! In this class, we will use free software downloaded from Google to learn how to transfer pictures from your camera onto your computer, how to organize them so you can easily find them in the future, how to make gift CDs of pictures to give to others, and how to print pictures in various sizes.  We'll show you how to edit and crop pictures, sharpen them if they're a bit blurry, and even change a color picture to black and white. MICROSOFT OFFICE CLASSES

OFFICE 2010                        

Learn the basic functions and features of Outlook 2010. Students will create e-mail accounts and send e-mail messages using several techniques. They will also learn how to manage e-mail messages, contacts, tasks, and meeting requests. BEGINNING WORD 2010                     

Looking for a thorough introduction to Word 2010? This course will meet your needs by providing training in working with text, printing, using proofreading tools, and creating bulleted and numbered lists, tables, and forms.  This is a great course whether you are a new user or have experience because it will teach you some tricks to making Word work for you. INTERMEDIATE WORD 2010                 

This course is for users familiar with the basics of Word 2010 who wish to use some of the advanced design tools to add more than just text to documents. BEGINNING EXCEL 2010                    

Whether you are using Excel 2007 or 2010, this course is for you! This course teaches the beginning level skills and is ideal for a newer user who wants to become well-versed in Excel. Students will learn how to enter and edit data; select cells and ranges; print worksheets; create formulas and function;  format cell contents; insert and delete columns, rows, and cells; and create charts. INTERMEDIATE EXCEL 2010                    

Students will learn more complex skills such as how to use multiple worksheets and workbooks, and they will start working with more advanced formatting options including styles, themes, and backgrounds and inserting clip art, pictures, and SmartArt. They will also learn how to create outlines and subtotals, how to create and apply cell names, and how to work with lists and tables. The course is designed for users of Excel 2007 or Excel 2010. The ability to create a dynamic presentation is important in many fields. In this class, students will receive a thorough introductory training in PowerPoint 2010 including document themes, bulleted lists, outlines, formatting text, printing presentations, transitions, clip art and graphics, charts, and slide show delivery.
