If you find yourself asking “What are the different levels of nursing degrees?” you’ve come to the right place. Let’s explore Aultman College’s nursing programs.

Associate of Science in Nursing vs. Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Whether you graduate from our BSN or ASN program, both lead to a Registered Nurse (RN) license, a career path that offers:

  • Average starting salary for RNs: $75,330 annual salary
  • Potential careers: Critical Care Nurse, Nurse Midwife, Home Health Nurse, Director of Nursing, Nurse Educator, Healthcare Manager, Telemedicine, Legal Nurse Consultant, and more
  • Job placement rate: 100% of students found jobs within one year of graduating (50-60% of them get jobs at Aultman Hospital)
  • Projected national employment growth: 9% for RNs and 15% for healthcare occupations from 2019 to 2029 (the latter being much faster than the average for all occupations)

Yet there are some major differences between these nursing programs. Explore them below to find what would work best for you and your goals.

Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN)

Students for the Associate of Science in Nursing program are accepted for a spring semester start. The direct-entry program is designed to be completed in five semesters.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

When you major in nursing, you’ll get direct entry into our Bachelor of Science in Nursing program upon acceptance. (Other institutions require students to spend semesters as a “pre-nursing” major and then compete for a limited number of seats in the program.) You can start this program in the fall or spring semester.

  • 2021-22 Tuition: $9,105 a semester (12-18 credit hours); $777 per credit hour (fewer than 12 credit hours)
  • 4 years of schooling
  • Total credit hours required for graduation: 120 (58 credit hours of foundational education AND 62 credit hours of nursing)
  • Curriculum model: Concept based

    • Potential placements include: Aultman Health Foundation facilities (various inpatient nursing units, Emergency Room, Intensive Care, skilled nursing care, homecare and hospice); Akron Children’s Hospital; various mental health experiences, including Sunrise Vista Health & Wellness, local nursing homes, and a variety of community agencies

No matter the route you decide to take, when you become an RN, you could have the following potential careers: Critical Care Nurse, Home Health Nurse, Director of Nursing, Healthcare Manager, Telemedicine, Legal Nurse Consultant, and more. With various pathways to success, you’re sure to find one that fits your calling.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing Completion Program (RN to BSN)

If you’re a registered nurse who already has an associate degree or diploma, you might be considering completing your Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Aultman College offers the RN to BSN degree 100% online at a lower tuition rate ($285 per credit hour).

The American Association of Colleges in Nursing state patients experience better nursing care from nurses who have a BSN. Even though the wages are comparable for the new graduate, the BSN degree offers more opportunity for personal growth, professional advancement, and increased wages. Life-long learning will lead to advanced nursing degrees and opportunities such as nurse anesthetist, nurse practioners, nurse educators, nurse mid-wife and many more.
