Grants for College Tuition

Eligibility for grant aid is based on financial need as determined through information provided on the FAFSA. Grant awards are given to qualifying students and, except under extremely limited conditions, do not need to be repaid.

The three largest grant programs are:

• Federal Pell Grant — Available almost exclusively to undergraduates and all eligible students will receive the Federal Pell Grant amount they qualify based on financial need. Estimated annual awards range from $598 to $5815 (2016-2017) and these grants are prorated based on the number of enrolled credit hours
• Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant — Eligibility for the FSEOG program is based on need as determined by the FAFSA and Pell eligibility.  Students who do not receive Pell in the specified award year are not eligible for FSEOG.  The minimum FSEOG amount is $100, and funds are limited.  Students with the lowest Expected Family Contribution (EFC) receive priority in awarding as required by federal regulations.  If funds remain after all Pell recipients have been awarded, FSEOG will then be awarded to students with the lowest EFCs who did not receive Pell grants.

• Ohio College Opportunity Grant — This is a grant that may be offered to students who are Ohio residents. These grants are also prorated based on full or part-time enrollment status
