students may earn credit for designated Aultman College courses through
successful completion of a Credit By Institutional Exam (CBIE). CBIE is not
available for courses for which CLEP or other exam mechanisms exist. Aultman College currently offers a CBIE exam for Language of Medicine (HSC 120).
are comprehensive in nature, represent coverage of all course competencies, and
are designed to assure that successful performance (a grade of C or
better) indicates student mastery equivalent to that expected upon completion
of the full course on the Aultman College campus. Students are responsible to prepare for the
exam on their own and are not eligible for tutoring, study guides, Faculty
support, etc. as part of the preparation for the exam. To see a current list of

awarded via CBIE will be:
- reflected on
the student’s Aultman College transcript with an S (and therefore
not calculated in the student’s Grade Point Average [GPA]).
toward the residency requirement for Aultman College.
- capped at a
maximum of six (6) semester credits.
fee is charged for each exam, and this cost is non-refundable (particularly in
the case of unsuccessful completion or lack of attendance during the scheduled
CBIE time) nor will it apply toward tuition for the courses should the student
fail to pass the exam.
be eligible to take a Credit By Institutional Exam, a student must:
- have all program admission
requirements completed, including all transcripts on file.
- be currently enrolled as an active
student in the applicable program at Aultman College.
- be in good academic standing, with
a 2.0 GPA.
- be otherwise eligible for
enrollment in the course (i.e., Student has met placement and prerequisite
standards and is within the allowable number of course attempts, etc.).
- not be currently enrolled in the
- not previously have attempted or
audited the course at Aultman College.
- not previously have attempted to
challenge the course via any credit by exam.
- have completed the Credit by Institutional Exam Request
- have paid the exam fee.
Any exceptions to these eligibility requirements
must be approved by the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- complete the Credit By Institutional Exam Request
Form and submit it to the Office of the Registrar 10 days prior
to the next scheduled CBIE date. The Office of the Registrar will:
eligibility and notify the student within three (3) days of the receipt
of the Credit By Institutional
Exam Request Form.
- file the Credit By Institutional Exam Request
Form in the student’s administrative record.
- pay the fee
to the Financial Analyst for each approved exam three (3) days prior to
the scheduled CBIE date.
- complete the
CBIE on the scheduled exam date.
