Radiography Students Set for Clinical Experience in New Hybrid Operating Room

Radiography technology

Beginning fall semester 2017, Aultman College radiography students will be exposed to cutting-edge technology during rotations through the new Aultman Hospital hybrid operating room.

“This is fantastic opportunity for our students to observe the most advanced imaging systems available,” said Robin Williams, MBA, RT(R), director of the radiography program. “They also will experience what it’s like for a team of different specialists to work together during open and endovascular surgeries.”

Aultman College is the only institution with radiography clinical placements in Aultman’s hybrid OR. The students will rotate through this area as an observation assignment during the fourth and fifth semesters of the program.

Aultman Hospital’s hybrid OR, which opened in June, uses unique technology to allow doctors across different specialties to work together in a truly collaborative environment. The cutting-edge imaging systems the radiography students will observe provide surgeons with quick and detailed information for shorter, more accurate treatment, substantially less X-ray exposure when compared to traditional devices, smaller incisions and shorter recovery times.
