Welcome to the SSC!

About the SSC

The Student Success Center's (SSC) mission is to extend guidance, assistance, and support students to recognize their desired educational and career goals.  Since learning is a continuous process, we believe in offering programs and services to students to enhance academic success. The best part about all of the services within the SSC is that they are FREE to ALL students.

Attending college is a big decision and an even bigger opportunity. No matter your reason for enrolling in Aultman College, one thing is certain: to make the most of this opportunity, you need to navigate through the support services offered on campus.

Disability Resources: The Student Success Center collaborates with students who have disabilities to coordinate services that enable equal access to education and college life. For additional information, contact the Student Success Services Coordinator at 330-363-6847 or by email [email protected].

Some of the free services available in the SSC to aid students in their educational journey of self-fulfillment include:

Disability Resources

Did you have an IEP, ETR, or 504 plan in high school? Did you receive disability resources at another college or university? Have you been diagnosed with ADHD, Autism, Anxiety, or a learning disability? Not sure if you qualify for these services? The college adheres to all laws and regulations as outlined on the ADA.gov website. Students applying for disability resources may request accommodations like private, distraction-free rooms for testing or extended time for tests/quizzes, just to name a couple. A request by the student and supporting documentation from a healthcare provider is required to begin this process. Set up an appointment with the SSC coordinator Cynthia Martinez at  [email protected] to discuss your personal needs.

Emergency Laptop Loans

While all students are required to have their own devices for use (see the Technology Resources Acceptable and Responsible Use Policy in the College Catalog), we understand that emergencies happen. Maybe your hard drive crashed, the battery died, or you accidentally left it at home. Loaner laptops are available in the Student Success Center (SSC) during regular business hours in these cases, but there is a limit of 15 laptop loans per student per semester. In the case of an emergency, loaner laptops should be returned to the SSC by the end of the business day. You can discuss extenuating circumstances with the SSC coordinator, but this limit will ensure that enough loaner laptops are available.

Radiography Resources

Check out the interactive radiography site for free tutorials on:

  • Chest X-rays

  • Abdominal X-rays

  • Musculoskeletal X-rays

  • To name a few!

Stress Management Strategies

Feeling overwhelmed? Whether this is your first attempt at college or you are returning to change careers, feeling stressed can be normal. However, if you are having difficulty adjusting to all that is happening in your life, review the resources that are available on the mental health link of the college website. There are some great, free modules for you to walk through. Your advisor or the SSC coordinator is also available to assist you. Feel free to stop into the SSC or make an appointment today!

Test Taking Tips

Learning how to navigate and "dissect" test questions, especially in healthcare courses, can be a challenge for many students. Review this resource to aid in your success by clicking HERE.

The SSC also offers Midterm Mania and Finals Frenzy each semester to provide added individual or small group sessions for students to gain the knowledge needed to tackle tests, midterms, and final exams. Meet with faculty and staff to discuss resources from the following areas: nursing foundational education, library, test-taking and stress management, and personal health. Watch for days and times in your college email and in the weekly Pulse e-newsletter.

Time Management

Not sure how to effectively utilize your time or where to begin to organize all of your assignments, personal obligations, and work? Feel like you don't have enough hours in the day to complete all of your tasks? Start to organize your time by reviewing these resources:

  • Time Management Video
  • Time Management Brochure
  • Utilize a planner: each semester, upper-level students provide a free "Planner Presentation" for all students. Tips and tricks to stay organized with assignments are addressed.
  • Plot out your weekly "to-dos" on a planning sheet. An example is available by clicking HERE.

Schedule an appointment with the SSC coordinator for individual assistance. Long-term, recurring meetings are also available for routine check-ins to aid in your success.

Tutoring

Getting extra assistance via tutoring is a great way to aid in your success! And the best part about it is that it's FREE. Don't wait until you've fallen behind to reach out. Some of our long-time, regular users, are students on the Dean's and President's lists. We offer both in-person and Zoom options for appointments in many subject areas: A&P, chemistry, math, statistics, physics, pharmacology, radiography, and nursing. Looking for a subject that isn't listed? Reach out to the SSC coordinator to follow up. The semester's tutoring schedule can be located at the bottom of this page.

Writing Consultations

The college offers writing consultations free of charge to all students. You can make an appointment with one of our tutors or use one from our online eTutoring collaborative. You must plan ahead for this service as feedback may take 1-2 weeks. Consult the tutoring section for more information on login instructions and available resources.
